Tom and Jerry: Making the world safer

From the Shanghai Daily:

HANGZHOU traffic authority has begun to show animations at one of its major crossroads, hoping that pedestrians will be more patient and not jaywalk, Oriental Morning Post reported today. The number of jaywalkers declined by almost 40 percent after the traffic authority began to broadcast Tom and Jerry cartoons on four flat-screen monitors at an intersection near West Lake, the newspaper reported, citing Yan Hao, a senior police officer from Hangzhou traffic police.

Bu Yechao, a chef working for a restaurant on Nanshan Road who crosses the intersection every day, said: “I lack patience, but I won’t jaywalk anymore now that they have the entertaining cartoons.”

If they bring that over here, I’ll probably stop crossing streets.
